Theater Stagecraft
Theater Stagecraft is a comprehensive year-long curriculum that takes the student through the backstage efforts of theatrical production. The program provides comprehensive instruction of the core concepts of Costuming, Set Design and Construction, as well as Lighting, Sound and Video projection for a wide variety of theatrical productions. Students will start the year learning the basics of costume design and construction in our fully equipped costume/dressing room. The second quarter will then transition to the Scene Shop where students will learn the skills of set design and then the hands-on construction of that set. In the third and fourth quarter, students will learn how to operate the lights and sound equipment of the Kingswood Arts Center for real-world applications. Many of our technicians become paid employees of the Center, being paid $15 an hour to run the booth for after school and weekend events. Students who enjoy real hands-on work with real-world results will find this class to be immensely fun and rewarding.
